The ICD Serial In window allows you to communicate serial information to a PICBasic HSERIN instruction. The ICD Serial In window will automatically appear when your program reaches a HSERIN statement. You can also open the ICD Serial In window by right clicking on the ICD Explorer window and selecting 'ICD Serial In...'. To send serial information, simply type the required data in the editor and then press enter. Alternatively, you can press the 'Send Message' button, located on the toolbar. The editor text changes from blue to grey, as each byte of data is transmitted by the ICD to the host microcontroller. You can also send control characters in your serial data. For example, you might want to send a carriage return or line feed in your message string. Further information on how to format special control characters can be found here. ICD Serial In Control The control buttons work in a very similar way to the main ICD Toolar buttons. You can send a message, stop, pause and also single step the serial data. Pressing the send message button (or carriage return key) will load the editor string into the transmission buffer. As each HSERIN instruction is executed, the transmission buffer is used to feed HSERIN. Pressing stop will clear the transmission buffer. You can also select the pause button to suspend transmission and use step to send data one byte at a time to HSERIN. ICD Serial In Message Loop The transmission buffer feeds a HSERIN instruction until the buffer is empty, at which point transmission to HSERIN will stop. Rather than manually having to send the message again, you can use the loop button to automatically re-transmit. Looping is enabled when the button is in the down position. ICD Serial In History Each time you press the send message button (or carriage return key), the message string is saved to a history list. You can use the forward and back buttons to quickly access a history item. This enables you to quickly access previously transmitted messages, without having to type them in again. The status bar will display the currently selected history item. To delete a history item, right click on the ICD Serial In editor window and then select 'Delete History Item'. See Also |
