PI/O 01 is an Eurocard format, size 100x160 mm, peripheral structure board that performs parallel I/O to the external world. It relies on Abaco® Industrial Bus so it can be controlled through any of the several CPU or GPC® cards compliant with this BUS.

The board provides four sections, each one of these sections manages 24 TTL I/O lines, totalizing 96 lines. These signals are available on six comfortables standard 20 pins Abaco® I/O connectors.

The hardware provides all the I/O signals at TTL level. Should the User need a different standard to interface to the external world, then he/she can refer to a set of signal conditioning modules. These modules belong to the BLOCK family, and can be used to build most of the common interfacing combinations normally employed in the industrial sector.

About the software, the control board must decide the definition of the employment mode of all the signals and so must decide also their directionality. Reading the status of signals in input and setting the status of the output signals is performed through read and write operations involving bytes.

The 96 I/O lines can be simply managed like common parallel ports or can be managed in more developed ways. The PPI 82C55, which has the task to manage the lines, can be programmed in several ways, allowing to deal with the most various situations.

A hardware Watch Dog circuitry is installed on the board, this circuitry works directly on Abaco® BUS so it can reach the CPU master board. This circuitry, opportunely managed, allows to increase the overall management safety of the system.

PI/O 01 card is the ideal component for all the system automation applications where it is needed to manage a high number of logic input and output signals or however is needed a high number of TTL signals.
